Bandari sink KCB to go top

What you need to know:

  • Bandari, who are on a resurgence after going five matches without defeat after a slump which almost threatened their season, welcomed back deadly striker Wycliffe Ochomo, who returned from injury to make a cameo appearance in the last 10 minutes, after replacing Shaban Kenga.
  • Ochomo, who looked a bit unfit after staying out injured for three months, showed some glimpses of brilliance and should get more game time in their SportPesa Shield cup match against Western Stima in Mombasa this Saturday.

Yema Mwama struck a brace to help Bandari to a 2-1 victory over Kenya Commercial Bank in a tough SportPesa Premier league match at the KPA Mbaraki Sports club, Mombasa on Wednesday.

The win saw Bandari dislodge champions Gor Mahia from the top of the standings. The Dockers are now on 47 points, three ahead of Gor, who play Kakamega Homeboyz on Friday.

The Congolese import was on fire scoring the match opener in the 30th minute when he connected with a powerful header from Shaban Kenga's well weighted cross as Bandari led 1-0 at the break.

He was on the mark again in the 74th minute with a scissor kick from yet another Kenga defence splitting cross from inside the six yard beating KCB's otherwise hardworking goalkeeper Omar Adisa.

The bankers pulled one back three minutes from time via a penalty by second half substitute Ezekiel Omulo, who sent Bandari keeper Farouk Shikalo the wrong way, after a Bandari defender handled in the box.
