Bamdari went top of the SportPesa Premier League after a 1-0 over Posta Rangers in a mid-week clash at the Mbaraki Stadium, Mombasa.

Abdallah Hassan scored the only goal of the game to hand the dockers the three points.

They are now on 18 points, one ahead of Mathare United. Bandari head coach Bernard Mwalala said he was happy to have won the game before they leave for Dar es Salaam to feature in the SportPesa Super Cup.

“Being league leaders is in itself a morale booster as we head to the regional tournament in Dar next week. I’ve been in Tanzania and I know how to tackle Singida United,” said Mwalala.

Posta Rangers head coach John Kamau said they did not deserve to lose the match.

“Had we taken the scoring chances, it would have changed the results,” he said.

Bandari failed to impress in the entire first half with the visitors in complete control. Rangers midfielder Peter Ng’ang’a sent a powerful shot which Bandari goalkeeper Farouk Shikhalo made a brilliant save.

In the 39th minute, Rangers’ striker Luis Tera missed a golden chance when he shot blindly wide. Three minutes later, the same player saw his shot beat Bandari goalkeeper Farouk Shikhalo but the ball hit side post and Mulumba cleared the danger.

In the second half, Bandari came back strongly and it was no surprise when in the 55th minute, Hassan sent a long ball which slipped from the hands of Rangers goalkeeper Levis Opiyo into the net.
