Sofapaka coach John Baraza has promised to turn around the club's fortunes after taking charge of his match.

Baraza, who was elevated to the position of head coach following the resignation of Medo Melis, guided his charges to a barren draw against Sony Sugar at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos on Saturday.

“I wanted to fix the defence because we’ve been conceding goals previously and I am satisfied with the defence,” Baraza underscored.

“The job at hand is now to work on our finishing so that we can get balls at the back of the net. As a coach, I am happy to be trusted with the mantle to help the team do well,

“Sofapaka is not supposed to be at the bottom or middle of the table, every season we’ve targets and one of them is charging for the title, we will continue fighting,” he concluded.

Against the Millers, Baraza started with Ugandan import Umaru Kasumba and John Avirre in attack. Kepha Aswani was deployed behind the strikers. Both Kasumba and Aswani were under-utilized by coach Medo.

Winger Cliff Kasuti was also reinstated in his offensive position unlike before where he was fielded at right back under the American trainer who has re-joined Mount Kenya United.

Club president Elly Kalekwa spoke glowingly of his former captain despite not picking a win in his opening match.

“Baraza has been in our system and it’s time we trusted him with the responsibility,” said Kalekwa.

“We shall soon bring in someone to work with him as his assistant,” he added.

Batoto ba Mungu are 12th on the log with eight points, 12 behind league leaders Mathare United.
