Bidco coach Saleh dreams big in National Super League

What you need to know:

  • A goal each from Seah Opwora, Geoffrey Kariuki and Nelson Chieta was enough for the Thika-based Bidco to beat Commandos.
  • On Monday, Bidco played their hearts out and secured the lead via Opwora who capitalised on a loose ball in the box to beat Green Commandos custodian Brian Opondo in the 14th minute.
  • Efforts by Commandos strikers' Michael Givogi, Rodgers Angel and Mandela Makuto to draw level came a cropper as they were time and again frustrated by Bidco defence marshaled by Jacob Onyango.

Bidco coach Leonard Saleh has tipped his team to go places in Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Super League.

On Monday, Bidco United defeated hosts Green Commandos 3-0 in a National Super League (NSL) match at Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega, and Saleh has attributed his team’s victory to a well co-ordinated game plan by his players.

“The boys followed my instructions to the letter which yielded fruits. If we continue playing this way, we will achive greater success,” he said after the match.

On Monday, Bidco played their hearts out and secured the lead via Opwora who capitalised on a loose ball in the box to beat Green Commandos custodian Brian Opondo in the 14th minute.

Efforts by Commandos strikers' Michael Givogi, Rodgers Angel and Mandela Makuto to draw level came a cropper as they were time and again frustrated by Bidco defence marshaled by Jacob Onyango.

In an attempt to contain Bidco strikers, the hosts resorted to off-side traps which backfired as Bidco’s striker Kariuki was quick on the ball to hit the roof of the net in the 26th minute for a 2-0 lead.

After the breather, Bidco scored one of the fastest goal in the league just a minute into the second half after attacker Chieta outsprinted defender Onyango to score his team’s third goal.

To reinforce the striking force, Commandos coach Eliud Omukuya substituted Michael Givogi and Riziki Mwema for Henry Atolwa and Collins Sichenje respectively, and Saleh withdrew David Juma and Nelson Chieta for Douglas Mokaya and Vincent Waweru respectively.

Omukuya attributed their defeat to injuries to his key players. The league debutantes have found life in the 19-team Kenya’s second-tier league tough. In 10 matches, they have won two, lost six and drawn two.
