  • Coast sides SS Assad and Bandari will square it out in another semi-final with the final set for June 1.
  • The champions will take home Sh2 million and a ticket to represent the country in the 2019/20 Caf Confederation Cup.

Kariobangi Sharks goalkeeper Matthew Gad was the hero as the SportPesa Shield defending champions knocked out Bungoma SuperStars 4-2 on post-match penalties to set date with KCB in the semi-final of this domestic cup slated for May 12.

Idd Wasike headed home Hillary Wekesa's cross for the opening goal on 78 minutes, before Erick Kapaito equalised for the holders deep into stoppage time to send the tie to spot kicks.

Gad, formerly at now defunct Palos, exhibited his penalty saving heroics, a kind he showed while schooling at Kisumu Day. First, the youthful custodian blocked Hillary Simiyu's first penalty, before pouncing on Christopher Masika's to send Sharks through.

Bungoma had converted through former Nzoia Sugar striker Patrick Kwitonda and Boniface Munyendo.

Duke Abuya, Sven Yidah, Tom Teka and Nixon Omondi scored for Sharks on the lottery.

A solid Bungoma SuperStars side created open scoring chances in the first half, but failed to find the back of the net.

Julius Were combined with Hillary Wekesa, who put Kennedy Wanyonyi through on goal in the 14th minute, but he blasted wide with Matthew Gad to beat in the Sharks goal.

On 33 minutes, Duke Abuya found Julius Masaba with a long pass, but the Ugandan's first time volley veered off the target.

Abuya was denied by an outstretched Geoffrey Simiyu in Bungoma SuperStars post after the forward had managed wriggle through the opponents backline on 48 minutes.
