What you need to know:

  • The Daily Mail is reporting that the 24-year old is waiting for a formal offer from either of these two teams, with negotiations ongoing between the central defender’s representatives and the aforementioned clubs.
  • The Brewers, who currently are managed by veteran coach Robert Matano, are also said to have offered him a deal to extend his three-year stay at the club.

Eugine Asike could be the latest Kenyan footballer to swap the Kenyan league for its Zambian equivalent, amid reports he is in talks to join either Red Arrows or Napsa Stars.

The Kenya international currently is a free agent after his contract with Tusker expired earlier this month and sections of the Zambian media are linking him with a move down South.

The situation however is out of the Ruaraka-based club’s hands with AFC Leopards among the clubs joining the chase.

“The possibility of acquiring a defensive minded player is high. It could be the Kenyan (Asike) but he is not the only name we are exploring,” Arrows coach Honour Janza is quoted as saying.

Either way, the former Sofapaka midfielder has until the end of June to decide his future.

The Zambian league is fast proving an attracting option for Kenyan players seeking better pay and greener pastures, with Jesse Were, Anthony Akumu, David Odhiambo, Clifton Miheso, John Makwatta, Ian Otieno, Andrew Tololwa and Ismail Dunga turning out for various top flight teams in the country.
