Fortune Sacco joins NSL, Shabana close in on promotion

What you need to know:

  • Ligi Ndogo, another side that was demoted from NSL last year, are 11th on 26 points.
  • In Zone B, leaders Eldoret Youth need a win in their remaining three games to book a slot in the NSL.
  • Nyakach United and Griffin have already been relegated in Zone B.

Kirinyaga-based Fortune Sacco is the first team to seal promotion to the 2019 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Super League (NSL).

Fortune, who edged out third-placed Mwatate United last weekend, top the 14-team FKF Division One Zone A standings with 57 points, 11 ahead of second-placed Naivas who beat Liberty Sports Academy 2-1 in another match at Camp Toyoyo grounds.

With three matches to spare, Fortune are all but assured of a slot in the country’s second tier football competition.

Savanna Cement and Commercial have been relegated to the fourth tier after accumulating a paltry 13 and 10 points respectively.

The Ministry of Sports-owned MOSCA FC, who were relegated from the NSL last year, sit fourth on 37 points after 23 rounds.

Ligi Ndogo, another side that was demoted from NSL last year, are 11th on 26 points.

In Zone B, leaders Eldoret Youth need a win in their remaining three games to book a slot in the NSL.

NYAKACH RELEGATED

The team, who lost 5-0 to Kariobangi Sharks in the 2017 domestic cup quarter-finals, top the 14-team standings with 61 points, eight clear of second-placed Shabana after 23 round of matches.

Nyakach United and Griffin have already been relegated.

Second-placed teams in each zone will face off in a one-off playoff to determine one more slot that fell vacant following the expulsion of Muhoroni Youth earlier in the season for failing to honour three consecutive matches.

With that in consideration, Naivas (Zone A) could face Shabana (Zone B) in the playoff.

Former Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Shabana will be seeking a return to NSL after relegation in 2016.
