Gor Mahia striker Meddie Kagere is the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Fans’ Player of the Month for September.

The Ugandan-born Rwandese collected a total of 1689 votes to beat AFC Leopards forward Lamine Diallo (431), Nakuru All Stars youngster Boniface Akenga (118), Ulinzi Stars custodian Francis Ochieng (59) and Chemelil Sugar FC attacker Meshack Karani (39) to the award in a ten-day poll conducted by Soka.

The 28-year-old said he was not expecting to win the award but thanked the fans for voting for him.

“I thank God for this award though I wasn’t really hoping to win it,” Kagere said shortly after he was presented with the trophy and Sh10,000 cash prize.

“I’m a very ambitious man and I always focus on the future. Better things are on the way for me. I joined Gor from a European team because I wanted to learn more. The KPL is tough and you have to work harder since it’s very physical,” he said.
