Gor Mahia ready for Vipers test in Cecafa quarters

Kenyan champions Gor Mahia are eager to take on their Ugandan counterparts Vipers in the first quarter-final of the Cecafa Kagame Cup ton Sunday at the National Stadium here in Dar es Salaam with their eyes looking further.

“We are ready to face anyone in the last eight. Vipers is a good team with quality players likes of Dan Sserunkuma and so is our team,” said Gor captain Harun Shakava.

“All my players know Vipers, we watched the two games they played in this tournament hence we know their strengths and weaknesses but we are in the knock-out stages,” said Gor coach Dylan Kerr.

“It will be a tough match but we’ve two days to rest before we go out there to achieve our objective of getting into the final.”

Gor qualified as Group B leaders based on Fifa Fair Play rule after collective five points relegating Rwandan giants Rayon Sports to second.

The two teams tied on points, goals scored and conceded but Gor accumulated less yellow cards, (four) compared to Rayon who picked five in the three group games.

Vipers finished second in Group “A” on five points, two adrift of leaders and defending champions Azam who meet Group “B” runners up Rayon Sports in another quarter-final on Monday.

Group “C” leaders Simba face Group “B” best losers AS Ports in the second quarter-final at National Stadium on Sunday.

The last quarter-final will see Group “C” runners up Singida United play Group “A” best losers Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi (JKU) of Zanzibar on Monday.
