Gor Mahia coach Hassan Oktay is unhappy with Ivorian striker Ephrem Guikan’s attitude in their 4-1 triumph over Mount Kenya United at Kasarani stadium on Wednesday.
Oktay pulled off the misfiring Guikan for the legendary Dennis Oliech after 42 minutes, a change that left the Ivorian furiously charging back to the dressing room as fans jeered at him. This is the second time this season the 24-year-old forward is pulling this stunt following his substitution.
“It’s the first time I am seeing this from Guikan but I can manage, this is not a problem for me, I will need to talk to him,” the Turkish-Cypriot trainer said.
“He needs to work hard and he knows that,” Oktay said. “One of my philosophy I try to give this football team is that they need to work hard to achieve something.”
Guikan, who had quit the Kenyan champions in November before making a U-turn following the resignation of coach Dylan Kerr, took to his Facebook page to apologise.
“I come with this message, excuse me for my behaviour tonight during the match. I admit to having bad reactions. I apologize to all the fans of Gor Mahia to all the team and to the coaching staff, I am really sorry (sic),” he posted.
Guikan had fallen out with Kerr hence the decision to not renew his contract at Gor Mahia late last year.
