Hosts Green Commandoes defeated Administration Police FC 2-1 in a National Super League (NSL) match at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Thursday.

It was the third victory in 12 matches for the Kakamega-based outfit.

Coach Eliud Omukuyia's side is among the five teams that are languishing at the bottom end of the league standings.

Administration Police have also found the going tough in the league. They have managed to win only two matches in 14 encounters.

At Bukhungu on Thursday, Mathews Rodgers gave Commandoes the lead after nine minutes before Joshua Otieno doubled their advantage on 32 minutes. The law enforcers scored their consolation goal in the 70th minute through Hillary Otieno.

The hosts stunned the visitors when Rodgers capitalised on a defensive lapse to hit the roof of the net with custodian Paul Khasenye well beaten.

Police had created a few chances that were squandered by Chola Sandanyi, Otieno and Salim Mzee with Victor Matete standing out in Commnadoes defence.

The visitors returned from the breather more rejuvenated, and mounted relentless attacks in a bid to kickstart a comeback.

But they had to wait until the 70th minute to half the deficit when lead striker Otieno rounded defender Griffin Odhiambo to score past custodian Jaffer Shitanda to set up a nervy end to the match.

Police coach Ben Juma attributed their defeat to lack of co-ordination among his attackers.

“The strikers wasted many scoring chances,” he lamented.

His opposite number Omukuyia was full of praise for his charges.

“The attackers were in top form. We now aim to recover from a string of loses we have posted in the league,” he said.
