Ugandan forward Hassan Kikoyo came off the bench to score the winner as visiting Kakamega Homeboyz beat Kariobangi Sharks 2-1 in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match at Camp Toyoyo grounds on Saturday.

Kikoyo replaced Keiphas Mutuu in the 74th minute and unleashed a stunner four minutes later.

Former Tusker winger Noah Wafula got Homeboyz off the mark in the 36th minute before Paul Kamau levelled on 54 minutes.

This is the second win for Homeboyz against Sharks in five games. The result saw Homeboyz move to 16 points, two ahead of Sharks after 11 matches.

“The tactical change won us the game and I am happy that we had a good start,” Homeboyz coach Mike Mururi said after the match.

He added: “Anytime I introduce Hassan he always changes the tempo of the game and whenever he scores he runs to me for celebration.”

His opposite William Muluya moved to congratulate the match winner Kikoyo for a well-executed strike.

“What worked out was an excellent goal from Homeboyz, otherwise we need composure to start getting positive results,” said Muluya, whose side has gone four matches without a win.

Sharks had John Oyemba in between the sticks with Wycliffe Otieno, skipper Geoffrey Shiveka and Michael Bodo playing three at the back while Erick Kapaito led the frontline.

Homeboyz had Rwandese Arthur Arakaza in goal with James Situma leading the backline.

In another match staged at the Chemelil Complex, Stephen Waruru’s late strike ensured Sofapaka and Chemelil Sugar shared the spoils in a one-all draw.

On-loan Tusker winger Abdul Hassan gave the hosts the lead in the first half finishing off a pass from Phillip Muchuma before Waruru equalised. Sofapaka's interim coach John Baraza oversaw his second successive draw with the team.
