Homeboyz frustrate Ulinzi, grab a point in Nakuru

Ulinzi Stars battled to barren draw with Kakamega Homeboyz in an evenly contested SportPesa Premier League match at Afraha Stadium Nakuru on Sunday.

The misfiring soldiers wasted a great chance to take an early lead in the 11th minute when Elijah Mwanzia powerful shot was blocked by Homeboyz goalkeeper Gabriel Adika.

Kakamega Homeboyz had a lion share of ball possession with their accurate passes and had their first opportunity when lanky striker Peter Thiong'o set up captain Allan Wanga with neat pass but his shot glided over the bar.

Three minutes into second half Allan Wanga made deep run inside Ulinzi Stars rear guard and latched on a through pass ball but his well taken shot was blocked by goalkeeper Timothy Odhiambo.

On the opposite side Ulinzi's left back Oliver Ruto unleashed a fierce free kick in the 52nd minute from 30 yard that was parried out for a fruitless corner by Adika.

Ulinzi Stars head coach Dunstan Nyaudo recalled Harun Mwale, Elijah Mwanzia and Churchill Muloma and brought in John Njuguna, Ezekiel Okare and Elvis Nandwa.

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Ugandan national Paul Nkata rested Wanga, Thiong’o and Ahmed Alibhai and brought in Maxwel Ravel, George Mandela and Benjamin Oketch.

Nkata who is handling his fifth club in Kenya said that he is building a new team that is composed of at least 10 new players.

“I have at least 10 new players who are yet to gel and adapt my style of coaching. I hope in the remaining matches they will catch up and register good results,” said he told Nation Sport.

Nyaudo was a frustrated man with the barren draw. “I have done everything in my disposal to sharpen the striking force and I don’t understand why the finishing is not being translated into goals.”

The draw sees Ulinzi jump to eighth with 12 points while Homeboyz remain 13th with nine points.
