Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Kakamega Homeboyz defeated Green Commandos 2-0 at Kakamega High School.

Striker Ali Bai snatched the opener in the 51st minute, before second half substitute Hassan Kikoyo sealed the fate of the new National Super League (NSL) debutants in the 66th minute.

Kikoyo, who was signed from Muhoroni Youth, came in the second half to replace veteran Kenyan striker Allan Wanga who was signed from former KPL Champions Tusker.

It was the first build up match for Kakamega Homeboyz who have been busy undertaking players recruitment exercise ahead of the 2018 season.

Commandos were also using the match to prepare for the NSL which they joined after clinching the FKF National Division One Zone B crown last season.

In Wednesday’s match, Homeboyz coach Mike Mururi fielded most of his new signings who did not make much impact as the students managed to contain them for the better part of the match.

Bai was substituted in the 71st minute for John Ndirangu who was snapped from reigning Champions Gor Mahia.

Homeboyz defence was marshalled by Wilson Anekeya and James Situma who were signed from Thika United and Tusker respectively.

Mururi said being their first pre-match encounter, the team is yet to gel. “I hope with more friendly matches we shall perform better,” he said.

Commandos coach Brenden Mwinamo said: “The boys played well against an experienced outfit.”
