Baraza: We will not give Gor Mahia breathing space

Sofapaka coach John Baraza believes the 2018/19 SportPesa Premier League (SPL) title race will go down the wire.

Champions Gor Mahia top the standings on 45 points similar to second-placed Sofapaka and Bandari, who are third.

Gor have however played 20 matches while their closest challengers have played four more.

“Gor have an advantage because they are already housing the trophy but we are also in the race,” said Baraza.

“It’s an open race with each team with a chance. Whoever slips will lose it but we are determined to fight until the end, that’s why we target maximum points in each fixture,” added the former Kenyan international whose team drew 1-1 with Kariobangi Sharks on Thursday.

“There are three types of teams in the league; title contenders, those chasing to finish in the mid-table and others after surviving relegation, these become obstacles whenever you meet especially in the second leg but for us, we are approaching each game as a final."

"I am happy that we don’t injuries in camp.”

“We could think that Gor have many matches to play in few days but it can be advantageous because as a player, you gain confidence every time you play, and also, they have depth in their squad to counter that.”

Gor will in the next two weeks play a game after every two days.

“The players know what they want and they have seen it’s possible to win it.”
