Newly appointed Thika United coach John Njogu has set eyes on lifting the performance of the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) strugglers.

Njogu on Wednesday replaced Nicholas Muyoti, who threw in the towel last week after a string of poor performances.

“He will be with us until the end of the season and hopefully after. He is a promising coach, very ambitious and one that fits our structure,” Thika Chief Executive Officer George Maina said.

Njogu, who joins the side from Mount Kenya University football club, becomes the third coach in less than a year after Muyoti and James Nandwa.

“I am excited at the opportunity to coach a premier league club. My immediate task is to work on our defending and striking which has been a let down in previous matches,” the Caf “B” license holder told Nation Sport on Thursday.

The Thika-based side has won just twice and six losses in 14 outings this term and are 16th on the 18-team table.

He added: “The players look motivated after the win against Wazito last weekend and we look forward to build on that. This is a platform to grow and Thika has been a hub for young coaches from the times of Kamau (John) who inspires me.”

The youthful coach was named the best in Central region in 2015 while with Ruiru HotStars and led Kiambu AllStars to the domestic cup’s round of 32 before their promotion to the third tier.
