A ruthless Kakamega Homeboyz side on Saturday pushed league debutants Wazito FC deeper into the relegation zone after beating them 3-2 in a fiercely contested SportPesa Premier match played at the Bukhungu stadium, Kakamega.

Wazito had grabbed a 29th minute lead through Pisca Kireng, only for veteran striker Allan Wanga to equalise for the hosts 14 minutes later.

Masakidi Mata increased the score line for Homeboyz in the 48th minute, but the joy was short lived as Samson Ndegwa levelled for Wazito in the 55th minute.

Right winger Moses Mudavadi ensured Homeboyz bagged all three points in the 62nd minute with a fine goal that Wazito were unable to respond in the duration of the match.

In other SPL matches played Saturday, Kariobangi Sharks bounced back from a string of five losses to beat Sofapaka 1-0 in Narok, while fans at the Camp Toyoyo grounds were treated to a mid-morning five-goal thriller as Nakumatt beat Posta Rangers 3-2.

Ulinzi Stars also returned to winning ways with a convincing 2-0 win over Chemelil at the Chemelil Sports Complex as Sony Sugar and Tusker played to a barren draw in Awendo.

The match between Homeboyz and Wazito started on high note, with Wazito’s lead striker Edward Lavatsa hitting their opponents cross bar barely five minutes into the match.

Homeboyz, whose line up was dominated by second string players, were on the mark in the 23rd minute when Moses Mudavadi rounded up defender Dan Owino only to shoot in the hands of custodian Martin Musalia.

Playing a highly physical game, Wazito’s Kirenge capitalized on a defense lapse to stretch goalkeeper Gabriel Wanyika in the 29th minute for their first goal.

Undeterred Homeboyz mounted a spirited attack when Esiye Estone’s left wing cross was headed into the yawning net by lethal striker Wanga in the 43rd minute to ensure both teams went to the half time break on a 1-1 stalemate.
