What you need to know:

  • Sharks – ranked fifth on the league standings with 29 points from 17 rounds- have already signed Tanzanian winger Athanas Mdam from Singida United.
  • “I will be looking out to sign a defender and probably a striker,” revealed Muluya, whose team edged Nzoia Sugar 1-0 in a midweek match on Wednesday at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

SportPesa Premier League side Kariobangi Sharks will not be overhauling the team during the mid-season transfer window, coach William Muluya has said.

Muluya says he has had to trust in the young blood in the absence of key of his players due to injuries.

For the past four matches for instance, Sharks have relied on a makeshift centre back of rookie Boniface Onyango and Michael Bodo.

Predominantly, Onyango - formerly at Kakamega High School, is a left back, while Bodo is a midfielder, but the two have kept three clean sheets in four games much to the surprise of Muluya.

“I will be looking out to sign a defender and probably a striker,” revealed Muluya, whose team edged Nzoia Sugar 1-0 in a midweek match on Wednesday at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

“The challenge we’ve is that no team wants to release their asset in midseason. We cannot cross the borders because we shall be suppressing our local talents,” he added.

“Injuries to my regulars have pushed me to give the young lads some playtime and they are doing well. They are in a learning process.”

He is delighted in the return of last season's top scorer Erick Kapaito, who netted the lone goal on Wednesday.

“He will score more goals. He is a player who works hard whenever he gets a chance. He is six goals adrift of the top scorer, I believe he can retain the golden boot,” concluded Muluya.
