Machakusi, Chakol crowned Teso South football champs

Machakusi FC and Chakol Ladies are winners of inaugural Teso South Constituency Development Fund football tournament that ended on Wednesday at Chakol Primary School grounds.

In the men’s final, Machakusi beat opponents Ngelechom United 3-2 in post-match penalties to emerge champions after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Ngelechom appeared to be headed for victory with a 1-0 advantage, before a defence lapse in the box resulted to a penalty that was converted by Oscar Musungu in the 90th minute forcing the match to be decided on penalties.

Fred Okwaras, Aaron Majune and Ismael Wesonga converted their spot kicks, while Patrick Omuse and Kevin Oruko missed the target.

On the other end, Benson Odede and David Adung’o scored for Ngelechom, while goalkeeper David Epale, Mark Obukui and Collins Emusugut wasted their penalties in the dramatic shootout.

In the ladies category, Chakol beat Apokor 2-0 thanks to goals from Maureen Walela and Perpetua Opalakadi.

Following their exploits, Machakusi were awarded a trophy, a ball, set of uniforms and Sh75,000.
