Makwatta eases Buildcon’s relegation woes

Kenyan international striker John Mark Makwatta scored in Buildcon’s 2-0 win over Nakambala Leopards in a Zambian Super League match on Saturday.

Rahim Osumanu opened the scoring three minutes after the restart before Makwatta doubled the lead 11 minutes ambian Super League matchto the final whistle.

Makwatta's third goal in a row lifted Buildcon out of the relegation zone with 15 points, seven adrift of second placed Zesco United who lost 2-0 to Green Buffaloes on Sunday.

Zesco is home to the Kenyan trio David Owino, Anthony Akumu and Jesse Were.

In Sweden, Kenyan duo of David “Cheche” Ochieng’ and Eric Johanna featured in IF Brommapojkarna’s 2-1 win over Kalmar in a top flight match on Friday.

Markus Gustafsson and Fritiof Bjorken scored one goal apiece before the half hour mark to render Viktor Elm’s last minute goal a mere consolation.

Brommapojkarna moved to 12th position with nine points in as many games.

In La Liga, Michael Olunga was a second half substitute as Girona finished the 2017/18 season with a 2-1 win away to Las Palmas on Saturday.

In the United States, Kenyan duo of Joseph “Crouch” Okumu and Chris Onyango made their debuts in AFC Ann Arbor’s 6-0 humiliation of FC Indiana in their third match of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) on Sunday.

AFC Ann Arbor top the seven-team table with nine points, five ahead of second-placed Grand Rapids from three games.

While Okumu joined the side from South African side Free State Stars, youngster Onyango was formerly at National Super League side Kenya Commercial Bank.

NPSL is an American football league commonly recognised as the fourth tier of American football.
