Makwatta eases Buildcon’s relegation woes

Kenyan international striker John Mark Makwatta scored in Buildcon’s 2-0 win over Nakambala Leopards in a Zambian Super League match on Saturday.

Rahim Osumanu opened the scoring three minutes after the restart before Makwatta doubled the lead 11 minutes ambian Super League matchto the final whistle.

Makwatta's third goal in a row lifted Buildcon out of the relegation zone with 15 points, seven adrift of second placed Zesco United who lost 2-0 to Green Buffaloes on Sunday.

Zesco is home to the Kenyan trio David Owino, Anthony Akumu and Jesse Were.

Olunga, who was on a season-long loan deal from Chinese side Guanzhou Zchicheng, made 14 appearances scoring three goals.

Las Palmas, Deportivo La Coruna and Malaga were relegated.

In the Georgian top tier, midfielder Alwyn “Chambi” Tera played for 61 minutes as Saburtalo lost 4-1 to Dila Gori on Sunday.

A hat-trick from Brazilian Leandro Ribeiro and one from Ukrainian Mykola Kovtalyuk ensured Dila collect maximum points against the league leaders.

Dila, third on the log with 23 points, four behind Saburtalo, is home to Kenyan Amos Nondi who has resumed training after a two-week injury layoff.

Winger Ayub Timbe Masika clocked 90 minutes in Lava Spring’s 3-2 defeat to Zhejiang Yiteng in a Chinese second tier match played on Sunday.

Lava Spring remain 11th on the 16-team table standings with 14 points from 12 rounds.

In the United States, Kenyan duo of Joseph “Crouch” Okumu and Chris Onyango made their debuts in AFC Ann Arbor’s 6-0 humiliation of FC Indiana in their third match of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) on Sunday.

AFC Ann Arbor top the seven-team table with nine points, five ahead of second-placed Grand Rapids from three games.

While Okumu joined the side from South African side Free State Stars, youngster Onyango was formerly at National Super League side Kenya Commercial Bank.

NPSL is an American football league commonly recognised as the fourth tier of American football.
