Mariga’s Oviedo miss out on promotion

Kenyan international midfielder McDonald Mariga’s Real Oviedo club missed by a whisker to qualify for the Spanish Segunda promotion playoff.
Real Oviedo registered a 2-1 win over Huesca in their last match of the 2017/18 Segunda division on Saturday, but missed out to Numancia, who edged relegated Cultural Leonesa by the same margin, to qualify on superior goal difference.
Oviedo finished seventh with 65 points from 42 games as Real Valecano and Huesca earned direct tickets to next season’s La Liga.
Real Zaragoza, Sporting Gijon, Real Valladolid and Numancia will battle it out in the playoff to determine which team that earns promotion to the top flight.
The 31-year-old Mariga made 15 appearances in the season amassing 910 minutes of playtime.
Elsewhere in Zambia, Jesse Were struck the all-important goal as Zesco United saw off hard-fighting Nakambala Leopards 1-0 at Levy Mwanawasa stadium in the Zambian Super League (ZSL) on Sunday.
