  • “He was our first choice when we decided to make changes to the technical bench and I have no doubt that he will deliver,” said Tusker chief executive Charles Obiny.
  • “My target is to win as many games as possible. Football is mental. Prepare players well and the rest will fall into place,” added Matano.

Robert Matano is fast turning into a Mr. fix it on the local football coaching scene.

On Wednesday, he squeezed arguably the most convincing performance from Tusker players in the Kenyan Premier League this season in a 1-0 win over Wazito at Camp Toyoyo in Nairobi.

This was 48 hours after he’d been drafted in to salvage a visibly sinking Tusker ship to replace Ugandan coach Sam Timbe.

The result ended the brewers four-game winless streak and marked only their third league win this season.

“It’s good for us all but it’s not enough we still need to do more and climb up the league table,” said Matano.

The brewers currently sit in an unfamiliar 13th position on the table standings, having moved two positions on the log following the Wazito win.

“He was our first choice when we decided to make changes to the technical bench and I have no doubt that he will deliver,” said Tusker chief executive Charles Obiny.

“My target is to win as many games as possible. Football is mental. Prepare players well and the rest will fall into place,” added Matano.
