Modern Coast Rangers edged Eldoret Youth 1-0 in a National Super League match played at the Eldoret Showground on Friday.

Stephen Jeffa scored the winner for the visitors on 23 minutes after connecting to Dennis Owino's cross with a solid header.

Speaking after the match, Modern Coast coach Joseph Siyula lauded his charges for holding on for the crucial away win.

“Despite the match being difficult, all sides played well and my boys stuck to our game plan which helped us emerge victorious after good preparations back home,” said Siyula.

Eldoret Youth tactician Rodgers Nandwa conceded defeat and admitted they were second best.

“In the game of football, you should always expect anything. This was not our day but I appreciate my boys for their effort,” offered Nandwa.

With the tie well poised in their favour, Siyula made two substitutions at the hour mark to defend their slim lead. The pair of Naftali Orawo and Richard Asuman was introduced for Hawkins Ademba and George Owiti respectively.

The stubborn Modern Coast defence thwarted the hosts but they almost cracked on 73 minutes when George Onyango stung Victor Ligingo's palm with a powerful shot.

Modern Coast will host Bidco United at Serani Sports Ground on February 13 in their next league match while Eldoret Youth will take on Kenya Police on the same day at Karuturi Grounds.

Meanwhile, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is expected to hold a sensitization programme on women football, a project supported by world football governing body Fifa, on Saturday at Sirikwa Hotel in Eldoret.
