'It's all about teamwork' - Musa Mohammed on solid Stars performances

“It’s all about teamwork and nothing more, nothing less,” Harambee Stars defender Musa Mohammed says when asked the secret behind his recent solid performances with the national team.

The Zambia-based defender has won coach Sebastien Migne’s heart, featuring in all the 11 matches the Frenchman has been in charge while partnering either Brian Mandela or Joash Onyango.

The former Gor Mahia man captained Kenya in the historical 1-0 win over Black Stars of Ghana in Nairobi September last year in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and went on to put up another solid performances in the double-header against Ethiopia.

Mohammed was not a regular at centre back under the previous coaches save for Paul Put, with whom they won the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup together in December 2017.

He was previously preferred at right back, a position he struggled to fit.

“When given a chance, always strive to put in better performances because you are representing the country,” Musa, who joined Zambian giants Nkana in July last year from KF Tirana of Albania, told Nation Sport.

Heading to the Africa Cup of Nations final tournament in Egypt, Musa is hopeful of a better outing despite having to compete for a place in the starting line with seasoned defenders David “Calabar” Owino and David “Cheche” Ochieng.

“It’s a good feeling to reach such a big stage for all of us,” said Musa, who has 47 appearances for Kenya.

“This opportunity has come at the right time because this is a team that was nurtured for a long time. It’s a platform to show what we are made of."
