NTV, Kwese Nairobi roadshow rises football fever

The “Cheki World Cup Live” roadshow organised by NTV in partnership with Kwese Free Sports Kenya takes a break on Sunday to resume and end on Tuesday.

The road show was flagged off on Friday by Nation Media Group Chief Executive Officer Stephen Gitagama at Nation Centre on Kimathi Street in Nairobi in a pomp and colour event.

The road show entered day two on Saturday with the caravan, decorated in NTV and Kwese Free Sports’ eye-catching brand colours, snaking its way through South B, South C, Nairobi West, Madaraka, Lang’ata, Ngumo, Kenyatta market and Kibra estates.

The five-day event, aimed at creating awareness of the much anticipated global event whose 32 of the 64 matches will be aired live on NTV starting Thursday, had the King of “Genge” music Jua Cali performing his popular hits that attracted large crowds along the Nairobi roads.

The spectators were treated to football quiz about the quadrennial competition and ball juggling with the best winning plenty of merchandise courtesy of Nation Media Group and Kwese Free Sports.

“The crowd is anxious to catch the action live and free unlike before where they had to pay to watch but this time round it will be availed at the comfort of their homes,” Kwese Free Sports Kenya Marketing manager Nickson Kirwa told Nation Sport.

On Tuesday, Dagoretti, Uthiru, Westlands and Kawangware should brace up for the final tour.

He added: “The roadshow culminates on Tuesday in Kawangware with a football match between Nation FC and Kawangware 46 amidst performance from Jua Cali who also performed at Jacaranda grounds on Friday.”

Kwese General Manager Monicah Ndung’u had on Friday assured the audience to expect more from the partnership.

“We’ve the broadcasting rights and we are going out there aggressively because our audience is mad about sports,” she said.
