Nairobi Stima, Posta Rangers face-off in play-offs

The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) first leg play-off between Nairobi Stima and Posta Rangers will be played on Saturday at Karuturi ground in Naivasha with the second leg set for June 19 at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

The winner of the two-legged play-off matches will qualify for next year’s SportPesa Premier League (SPL), with the losers featuring in the second tier National Super League.

Rangers finished one place above the automatic relegation spot in the top flight SPL while Stima came third in the NSL.

Stima who only lost two games from 38 matches will be seeking for promotion were on the verge of gaining automatic promotion but had an inferior goal difference as compared to NSL runners-up Kisumu All Stars who had 68 goals against Stima’s 64.

Deadly striker Dennis Ochieng Oalo, who scored 24 goals to emerge top scorer in the NSL, will lead Stima's attack.

John Kamau, who took over from Sammy Omollo in January, when the team was fighting relegation, will be banking of experienced players including danger man Gerson Likono when leading his charges in Naivasha on Saturday.

“We want to ensure that we keep focus because we are prepared and the players want to remain in the top league,” added the former KCB tactician.
