Cash-strapped Nakumatt on Saturday rallied from two goals down to hold Thika United 3-3 in a thrilling Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match at Ruaraka grounds.

Clement Mata shot the visitors ahead in the 10th minute after slotting home past Lucas Indeche in Nakumatt goal before Saad Musa added a second eight minutes later.

Cornelius Juma halved the deficit in the 34th minute after latching onto a Clinton Kisiavuki pass to round Ugandan goalkeeper Allan Owiny in Thika goal.

Congolese Mata, formerly of AFC Leopards, netted the third for Thika and his second of the day, two minutes to the breather with a well taken shot.

Just before the halftime break, Donald Mosoti converted from a penalty spot after Baraka Badi had been penalised for fouling Boniface Mukhekhe inside the area.

ODHIAMBO'S IMPACT

Veteran midfielder Moses Odhiambo, on as a substitute, intercepted a pass in midfield and quickly released Brian Nyakan, who beat Owiny's for the equaliser with four minutes to play.

“It’s a disappointing result. We committed comic mistakes at the back that cost us but we pick ourselves up and prepare for the next game, at least we appreciate a point away from home,” Thika United coach Nicholas Muyoti told Nation Sport after the game.

Nakumatt boss Anthony Mwangi lauded his boys’ fighting spirit despite the off-the-pitch challenges that delayed their preseason preparations.

“We are slowly getting our rhythm back because we didn’t have a proper preseason owing to money issues. It’s our positive mentality that is driving us with the financial challenges we are facing," said Mwangi.
