Sam Nyamweya has withdrawn his candidature from the ongoing Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential elections.

Nyamweya made this declaration to a hushed audience that included delegates, senior government officials, including Cabinet Secretary for Sports Hassan Wario, and officials from football world governing body Fifa during FKF's special general meeting at the Safaricom Indoor Arena on Wednesday afternoon.

"Time has come for me to concentrate on building the country in other capacities," Nyamweya said.

Following Nyamweya's withdrawal, the delegates will now have to choose the next FKF president from among four candidates: Nick Mwendwa, Ambrose Rachier, Sammy Shollei and Ssemi Aina.
