Otieno wary of New Stars threat in Caf Confed Cup tie

Gor Mahia stand in captain Philemon Otieno is cautious ahead of their Caf Confederation Cup playoff first round match against New Stars de Douala of Cameroon set for Sunday at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Otieno, who will wear the captain’s armband in the absence of suspended Harun Shakava, admits that the absence of three key players might have an impact on their performance.

Defender Joash Onyango is also suspended while midfielder Humphrey Mieno did not train with the team during the penultimate training session at Kasarani stadium on Saturday. Mieno is reported to have flown to Addis Ababa to complete a move to champions St. George of Ethiopia.

“We’ve good players who can fit in their positions and work,” revealed the former Ushuru midfielder who has since been shifted to right back position.

“As players, we don’t want to concede a goal at home because that’s what cost us in the Caf Champions League. We are motivated to give our best,” he added.

The return leg will be staged in Limbe next Sunday.
