Posta Rangers continue resurgence against Vihiga United

Visiting Posta Rangers picked their third win under John Kamau when they edged Vihiga United 1-0 in a tough SportPesa Premier League (SPL) match at Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday.

Ken Mutembei netted the lone goal in the 48th minute capitalising on a defensive blunder.

Vihiga United coach Mike Mururi was hesitant to talk to the media when asked to comment on the match.

“We lost many scoring opportunities. But our opponents utilised the few they got,” said Mururi.

Posta Rangers coach John Kamau thanked his boys for picking maximum points on the road.

"The performance from the players was encouraging. We deserved to win the match and I look forward to posting more good results as we head into our next fixtures,” he noted.

Both teams began brightly and it was Vihiga who could have grabbed the lead as early as the fifth minute but Rashid Kyambadde’s shot from the edge of the box went wide.

A counter attack from Posta involving Peter Ng’ang'a, Francis Nambute and Cavin Odongo was repulsed by a strong Vihiga defence led by skipper Bernard Ochieng'.  

Displaying a highly skilful game, Posta went on offensive in the 48th minute when Mutembei picked a lose ball from the wing, raced towards goal and broke the deadlock with a neat finish.

Upon resumption from half time, both sides made changes. Mururi substituted Steve Wakanya, Alex Imbusia and Kevin Mukhanji whose positions were taken up by Amos Kigadi, Kevin Sagide and Timothy Luda respectively.

Kamau rested Peter Ng’ang'a, Cavin Odongo and John Nairuka for Jerry Santos, Luis Tera and Marcellus Ingotsi respectively.
