The Gor Mahia FC patron on Tuesday challenged the club to focus on conquering the region and Africa as the team gears for next year’s Caf Champions League and the Cecafa Club Championship.

Speaking at his Capitol Hill office in Nairobi where he hosted K’Ogalo two days after they bagged the Premier League title for a record 15th time, former prime minister Raila Odinga praised the team for withstanding numerous odds to affirm their status as the best football club in the country in emphatic style.

“I’m proud of you because you won the title in a similar way Bayern (Munich) did last year in Germany, and there is no doubt that you are the champions,” he said.

“Unlike in 1976, when it (fight for the title) was a neck-and-neck race, this time you have done it with a 20-point gap.

“Let’s now focus on Africa, and I want to see you playing with other giants; teams from Cameroon and the rest. If Equatorial Guinea can do it (in the Africa Cup of Nations finals), why not us?”

Odinga also said efforts are being made to help the limping AFC Leopards to find its footing, adding that a stronger Ingwe makes Gor better.

The opposition chief gave the club Sh500,000, of which Sh300,000 went to the playing unit and the balance shared equally between the backroom staff and the office.
He added that efforts were under way to secure the club a shirt sponsor.
