Tusker coach Robert Matano has sent an early plea to the club management to revise the bonus structure as a motivation to restore lost glory in the upcoming SportPesa Premier League (SPL) season.

The 11-time champions, who bagged the league and the domestic cup double for the first time in the club's history in 2016, are three weeks into preseason with six new faces already unveiled at the Ruaraka-based outfit.

They kick off the transitional 2018/2019 season with a match away to Sony Sugar on December 8.

The 2017 SPL Most Valuable Player Michael Madoya tops the list of new signings alongside Ugandan defender Rodgers Aloro who comes in from Sofapaka.

The brewers have also roped in left back Sammy Mejja from demoted Thika United, midfielder Clyde Senaji (Vihiga United), defender Hillary Wandera (Nzoia Sugar) and striker Muzerwa Amini from Police of Rwanda.

Ugandan duo of Robert Achema and Jimmy Kulaba have been released.

“We need depth in the team, a balanced team has key positions well covered,” said Matano after taking his charges through their paces at Ruaraka grounds on Thursday.

“But the coach and players cannot succeed on their own without support from management. Motivation is key, I am not talking of salaries and allowances which are enshrined in the contracts but we want something extra, we don’t need everything but recognition,” underlined Matano.

“In 2016 for instance when they won a double, they were being motivated twice, I request the management to revise what was there before and we will be good to bear fruits, we are asking them to give us something extra this season, I will be ready to take the blame when I fail to deliver,” beseeched Matano.

Reached for comment, Tusker Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Charles Obiny said they’ve lined up motivational goodies for the team during the six-month long season.

“Everything depends on availability of funds but we shall see what to do,” Obiny said.

Tusker players are said to be pocketing Sh8,000 for a win and Sh1,000 for a draw unlike the second leg of 2016 when it was increased to Sh15,000 for a win leading to claiming a double.
