Shabana start on winning note in NSL

Shabana started on a high note in their 2018/2019 National Super League (NSL) season opener stopping hosts St. Joseph’s Youth 1-0 at Afraha stadium in Nakuru country on Saturday.

Oscar Oketch scored the solitary goal to hand Gilbert Selebwa-coached team a moral boosting return to the second tier.

The team was promoted from the third-tier last season following a successful playoff victory over Mwatate United at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on October 28.

Closely in Naivasha, debutantes Fortune Sacco were unfortunate going down 2-1 to Kenya Police at Karuturi grounds.

Martin Mutua shot Kenya Police ahead but Fortune Sacco leveled through Robert Mutua at the stroke of halftime.

Peter Wanyonyi struck the winner in the second half to hand Charles “Korea” Omondi his first win of the season.

“The first match is always difficult,” said Omondi. “This victory will be a benchmark as we plan for upcoming fixtures to work for more three points.”

Elsewhere at Camp Toyoyo grounds, Oscar Mbugua’s 32nd minute goal guided Ushuru past Migori Youth.
