Shanzu hosts Coast ‘Chapa Dimba’ finals

Shanzu Teachers Training College hosts Coast Region finals of Safaricom Chapa Dimba youth football tournament this weekend.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa and Harambee Stars head coach Paul Put are expected to attend the championships.

Eight teams from South Coast and North Coast were among 166 squads that took part in the preliminaries held last month.

In boys’ semi-finals, Iqra FC from Tana River has been drawn against Malindi’s Breezeham, while Shimanzi FC from Mombasa takes on Kwale’s Shimba Hills.

In girls’ semi-finals, Waa Girls of Kwale play St John’s Girls from Kaloleni as Kilifi Queens battle it out against Malindi’s Solwodidi.

The winning teams from Sunday’s finals will each receive Sh200,000 and a chance to contest for the ultimate prize in March this year at the national finals.

“We truly believe in the power of coming together to make the dreams of young upcoming footballers come true. It brings us great joy to be part of a competition that promotes talent and has the potential to change the lives of hundreds of youth in our country,” Safaricom’s Director of Consumer Business Sylvia Mulinge said.

The teams that have so far qualified for the national finals include Rift Valley’s Kapenguria Heroes and Tar Tar Girls as well as Mwingi Junior Academy and Ngakaa Talent Academy from Eastern region.

Nyanza region will be represented at the national finals by Ombek Red Devils and Plateau Queens, while Al-Hayat FC will represent North Eastern region.
Western, Central and Nairobi regions are also scheduled to hold their regional finals in the next few weeks.

At the grand finale, the winning teams will walk away with Sh1 million each and will have an opportunity to attend training and mentorship camp in London in April 2018. Safaricom has invested Sh100 million in the programme.
