Domestic cup holders AFC Leopards suffered their 13th loss of the season after going down 3-1 to Kariobangi Sharks in a league match staged at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos on Tuesday.

It was Sharks’ fourth win on the trot, and the victory provided a wonderful background for William Muluya's charges who are scheduled to face Ulinzi Stars in the SportPesa Shield semi finals this weekend.

George Abege scored a brace for Sharks in the match, and his efforts were complemented by Duke Abuya as midfielder Whyvonne Isuza scored the consolation goal for Ingwe. Sharks are now ranked sixth with 46 points, Leopards remain third with 51.

Abege was first on the score sheet with a goal in the 13th minute. Patillah Omoto had floated a free kick into the 18-yard area which found Abege unmarked. Abege then rose to head the ball inside the net to give Sharks an early lead.

Ingwe responded four minutes later through Isuza who took advantage of a defensive lapse in the Sharks’s box to slot the ball home.

The scales tipped once again in the 53rd minute when AFC Leopards goalkeeper Ezekiel Owade parried away a dangerous shot from Abege only for the ball to land on Abuya’s feet. The latter made no mistake to send the ball home, restoring the lead for his team.

Ingwe fell further behind in the 65th minute when Abege easily tapped in a cross from Harrison Mwendwa to complete his brace.

Abege, formerly of Sony Sugar, retained his position on the starting 11 as Sydney Simale who also scored in the 5-2 mauling of Nakumatt started from the bench.

AFC Leopards Argentine coach Rodolfo Zapata on the other hand profited from the return of striker Ezekiel Odera and defender Salim Abdallah, although he was still forced to work without Robison Kamura, Isaac Oduro, Moses Mburu and Dennis Sikhayi who are all nursing different injuries.

Salim partnered young sensation Mike Kibwage in central defence while Odera and Nigerian International Alex Orotomal led the hunt for goals.
