Chapa Dimba: Shimba Hills, Waa Girls clinch Coast tickets

Shimba Hills and Waa Girls High of Kwale County will represent Coast Region in the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom youth football tournament nationals after winning their respective final matches at Shanzu Teachers Training College in Mombasa on Sunday.

Shimba Hills won the boys title after humiliating Breezham FC from Malindi 3-0 while Waa Girls took home the girls crown after registering a similar scoreline against Malindi Action (Solwodidi).

Shimba Hills, who eliminated Mombasa’s Shimanzi FC 3-1 in the semi-final, looked the better side took the lead in the in the 13th minute when Hamisi Ali received a fine cross from Abdalla Idris and sent a powerful shot past Breezham goalkeeper Jefwa Vidzo.

The winners continued to pile more pressure and it was no surprise when they got their second goal in the 28th minute through a penalty when Said Heri was fouled inside the box and captain Bakari Kishombo made no mistake from 12 yards.

Shimba picked from where they had left it before the break, and made a series of attacks. They were rewarded six minutes after the breather with their third goal through Msaji Said after a fine combination between Said Heri and Juma Mwinyi.

GIRLS SHOWDOWN

In the girls' final, Waa Girls - who knocked out favourites St John’s Kaloleni in the last four - put up a good account of themselves from the word go and took the lead in the 34th minute through Salama Mariga, who also won the top scorer’s award with four goals to her credit.

EARLY PREPARATIONS

Waa were in complete command in the second half where they managed to register two more goals on 66 and 69 minutes through Violet Akoth and Nelly Jonathan respectively.

The winning teams received Sh200,000 each and qualified for the national finals to be held from March 23-25 in Nairobi. The winners of the final are to qualify for a training camp trip to London in April.

Shimba Hills head coach Ali Marumu said they will continue to train to make sure they win the national title. “We won because we trained well and played series of warm-up matches. We will continue doing so till the national finals,” he said.
