Sofapaka coach Medo Melis has resigned, Nation Sport understands.

The Egyptian-born American did not attend the team’s training session on Tuesday at Ruiru Stadium with his assistant John Baraza taking the boys through their paces.

Melis took charge of the 2009 champions in November last year after a stint with Mount Kenya United, formerly Nakumatt FC.

“He has resigned but is yet to meet the president of the club over the same,” a source from the team told Nation Sport on Tuesday.

When contacted, club president Elly Kalekwa promised to return our calls as he was "held up in a meeting."

Melis becomes the second coach to part ways with his team in the Premier League after Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo was axed by Posta Rangers a few weeks ago. Omollo has since joined the Frank Ouna-coached Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) as an assistant coach.

Batoto ba Mungu have had a spluttering start to the season managing just a single win, four draws and two defeats in seven matches.

They are ranked 11th on the standings with seven points.

Sofapaka are scheduled to host Nzoia Sugar this Saturday at Kenyatta stadium in Machakos.
