Sony Sugar-AFC Leopards game rained off

Tusker on Sunday beat Kariobangi Sharks 2-0 at Moi International Sports Stadium, Kasarani, in the highlight of the eight SportPesa Premier League matches played across the country.

Elsewhere, Ulinzi also gunned down a faltering Mathare United by a similar scoreline, while Allan Wanga continued his rich vein of form this season, scoring the lone goal in Kakamega Homeboyz win over Vihiga United at Bukhungu Stadium.

In Awendo, AFC Leopards game versus Sony Sugar was rained off with Ingwee leading by a Whyvonee Isuza first-half goal in the final 20 matches of the game.

"The rules state that match will be replayed at 10am the following day from the first minute with scores at 0-0,'" explained Kenyan Premier League CEO Jack Oguda.

At Kasarani, Timothy Otieno and Boniface Muchiri each scored in the second stanza to condemn Sharks to a sixth winless game. The result also ensured the brewers climb to fifth on the league table.

Otieno, formerly of Gor Mahia, put Tusker ahead in the 64th minute, and his efforts were complemented by Muchiri who found the back of the net in the 73rd minutes with yet another headed goal.

"The team is improving every day and I like the progress. Today we were the better side despite the fact that Sharks are nowadays a very strong and sometimes unpredictable side. I want the players to continue working hard and staying focussed because we are not where we should be," said Tusker coach Robert Matano in his post-match address.

At the Afraha stadium, Mathare United coach Francis Kimanzi was too disappointed by his team's performance and snubbed the post-match briefing.

At one stage, Kimanzi warned photographers not to take pictures of him on the touchline as his charges struggled to break down the soldiers.

"This is my fifth match since I returned to coach the team and I'm delighted that the motivational talks I gave the boys has translated into a convincing win," explained Ulinzi coach Benjamin Nyangweso.

The soldiers scored their first goal on the hour mark when Elvis Nandwa scored his second of the season via a powerful volley when Daniel Waweru booted in the fifth corner of the match.

Daniel Waweru, who undoubtedly was the man-of-the-match, played a key role in delivering the second goal for Ulinzi when he dribbled the ball on the left flank and laid it on the path of advancing Oscar Wamalwa who in turn fired past a hapless David Okello.

At the Bukhungu stadium, Homeboyz condemned relegation-threatened Vihiga to another league defeat.

Golden boot chasing lethal forward Allan Wanga fired the victor's only goal via a header in the 36th minute.

"I'm impressed by the performance of the players. I'm happy they have kept the winning momentum as we move to the home stretch of the league campaign," said Homeboyz coach Nicholas Muyoti.

Wanga should have scored two goals, but he missed a penalty earlier on in the game awarded by referee George Mwai after goal bound Luke Namanda was brought down by Vihiga defender Edmond Mauda.
