After a season-long battle against relegation, Thika United were effectively relegated from the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) after losing 1-0 to Nzoia Sugar on Sunday at the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.

Thika succumbed to a penalty successfully converted by Festus Okiring in the 35th minute. Nzoia had been awarded the spot kick after Michael Mutinda was judged to have handled the ball inside the box.

The result left them bottom on 23 points.

Wazito FC, who are the other strong candidates for relegation, bought themselves a little more time in the top flight as they drew 3-3 with Zoo Kericho at Camp Toyoyo.
