What you need to know:

  • The power men would have equalised 12 minutes later, but Kote Amboko failed to beat Ulinzi's goalkeeper James Saruni from the spot. Coach Ogai's side were awarded a penalty after James Ogada was fouled inside the box.
  • Stima's Kevin Okoth was not lucky with his long-range drive, before his team-mate Ogada's towering on the half-hour mark missed the target.

Enosh Ochieng scored a brace to help visiting Ulinzi Stars to a 2-0 win over hosts Western Stima in a SportPesa Premier League match at Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Wednesday.

The striker struck in both halves of the match piling more misery on Stima, who have not recorded victory in two months now.

A sliding Ochieng fired Ulinzi into the lead after five minutes when he headed the ball into the unguarded right side of hosts' net.

Stima's Kevin Okoth was not lucky with his long-range drive, before his team-mate Ogada's towering on the half-hour mark missed the target.

The tempo of the match reduced in the remaining minutes of the first stanza, which was hallmarked by injuries. Bonventure Muchika almost stretched Ulinzi's lead on the stroke of halftime, his header from Daniel Waweru's corner-kick delivery going wide by few inches.

Stima made A double substitution a few minutes after the restart, with Henry Onyango and Hubert Kopany taking the places of Wesley Kemboi and Clifford Omondi respectively.

Mukisa Junior missed an open chance to restore parity for his side on the 56th minutes when he fired wide Okoth's cross, before substitute Kopany also missed the target with a clever finish.

Stima's substitutions looked to be working to their advantage as they pinned their opponents on their half in search of the equalising goal.

Five minutes after the hour-mark, Ulinzi survived when Ogada's free-kick hit the foot of the goalpost, Okoth managing a rebound with his head, which was cleared to safety by a red-shirt.

Ochieng sealed victory for Ulinzi on the 83rd minute through a rebound after Stima's defender Kevin Muyoki's clearance came his way.
