Unbeaten Ushuru top NSL standings
What you need to know:
- Nobody expected Talanta would have collected 13 points at this point in the season
- Fourth-placed Shabana will be left to rue lost chances
- Despite being regular participants in the NSL, City Stars, Kibera Black Stars and Bidco United have found it difficult to cope this season
Unbeaten Ushuru lead the National Super League (NSL) standings by a point from second-placed Wazito who ended Shabana’s unbeaten run at the weekend in Kisii.
Leaders Ushuru, under the tutelage of coach Ken Kenyatta, edged Thika United 2-0 in Thika to take their points tally to 16 from six matches, while fellow title contenders FC Talanta are third on 13.
Nobody expected Talanta would have collected 13 points at this point in the season, but they registered their fourth win of the season at the weekend, edging Kenya Police 2-1 to jump into the top four. They are now placed third ahead of more experienced teams like Nairobi Stima, Bidco United, Thika United and Nairobi City Stars who are still stuck in the relegation zone.
Fourth-placed Shabana, whose unbeaten run was brought to an end by Wazito at Gusii Stadium on Saturday, will be left to rue lost chances.
“We have been dislodged from the second spot but we are looking forward to winning our next match to revive our hopes of promotion,” coach Gilbert Selebwa said after the match in which nine Wazito players were yellow-carded over time-wasting tactics.
Coast Stima battled to a 2-2 draw against visiting Nairobi City Stars whereas hosts Kisumu All Stars ran riot 4-1 against Kangemi All Stars in Kisumu.
Administration Police registered an impressive 3-0 win over Green Commandos at Camp Toyoyo to remain seventh.
Despite being regular participants in the NSL, City Stars, Kibera Black Stars and Bidco United have found it difficult to cope this season.
Modern Coast Rangers, who were beaten 2-0 by St Joseph’s Youth, remain rooted at the bottom with a point, one behind Kibera Black Stars and two behind Green Commandos who are ranked 19th and 18th respectively.
