Newcomers Vihiga United chalked up their first Kenyan Premier League win this season when they gunned down hosts Ulinzi Stars 1-0 in a midweek match at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru on Wednesday.

The side sponsored by the County government of Vihiga scored their all-important goal in the 86th minute through striker Christopher Masinza.

Edward Manoah's charges had gone nine matches without a win prior to this result, and the win pleased the former AFC Leopards coach.

“The team spirit gave us the deserved victory and I hope the boys will now forget the false start and focus on the matches ahead,” said coach Manoah.

Ulinzi coach Danstan Nyaudo was a disappointed man, blaming his boys for losing easy scoring chances.

“When playing a struggling team like Vihiga United and you fail to bury the chances you get, you are bound to get punished by a single chance from the opposition,” lamented Nyaudo.

At Camp Toyoyo, veteran midfielder Osborne Monday got Posta the lead after 32 minutes slotting home easily after Homeboyz defenders failed to clear their lines.

Kennedy Otieno doubled the mailmen’s lead at the stroke of halftime after connecting with Danson Kago's delivery, for his third goal of the season.

The win follows a 3-1 result recorded at the same venue against Thika United last weekend and it's the mailmen's third this season.

In the second match at Ruaraka, substitute Patrick Otieno struck with eight minutes to go to hand Nzoia Sugar a 1-0 win over Sofapaka as Chemelil Sugar played out a goalless draw with Thika United at the Chemelil Sports Complex.
