Promotion-chasing Western Stima and Ushuru on Sunday shared spoils in their National Super League (NSL) clash after battling to a barren draw at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Stima Coach Richard Makumbi said they were unlucky in the match and blamed his "shy" strikers for the draw.

"We were unlucky and just like in our last game, the strikers are still goal shy. We had many chances to kill the game but that did not happen," said Makumbi.

As expected, the two former Kenya Premier League sides approached the match cautiously, and that was evident in the opening half where very few scoring chances were created.

Ushuru created the first chance of the match after Benson Amianda released Luis Masika but his low shot did not trouble goalkeeper Stima keeper Stephen Otieno.

DUKLY'S SHOT

Few minutes later, Ushuru narrowly survived after Liberian international Maurice Dukly's ferocious drive from outside the area hit the crossbar. Outspoken Ushuru coach Ken Kenyatta made a first half substitution, bringing in Oscar Mbugua for former Stima man Baron Oketch.

Goalkeeper Kennedy Obwanda brilliant save denied Stima a glorious chance to break the deadlock just at the start of the second half after pushing out Dukly's clever shot that was headed to the top corner.

Coach Kenyatta made their second substitution in the 54th minute as Patrick Macharia replaced 2014 Kenyan Premier League MVP Antony Ndolo.

Obwanda once again rescued Ushuru after denying John Mwita from close range at the hour mark, moments before Makumbi made his first substitution.

Valen Mahero came on for Erastus Mwaniki while Kenyatta exhausted his substitution in the 72nd minute with Michael Ange taking the place of the former Gor Mahia and Bandari striker Enock Agwanda.

"The game was tough but we played well. All in all we are planning for the next match with a win being all we want," Kenyatta said.

Western Stima will be away to Isibania while Ushuru will face KCB in their next fixtures.
