Visiting Nairobi Stima handed Western Stima their second defeat of the 2018 National Super League season with a 1-0 result at Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Sunday.

The defeat however didn’t displace the Richard Makumbi-coached side from the top of the table standings and after 17 rounds, they still lead with 35 points.

Kenya Commercial Bank thumped Coast Stima 2-0 at Camp Toyoyo grounds on Saturday to go second, five points behind leaders Stima albeit with a game in hand.

Third-placed Ushuru lost a chance to close the gap on Stima following a goalless draw with relegation-threatened Golden Field Evangelism (GFE).

“The most important thing is to pick positives from the match and work towards winning the next game. We could’ve won on Saturday but missed a couple of chances in front of goal,” Ushuru coach Ken Kenyatta lamented.

Police coach Charles “Korea” Omondi said despite the stiff competition in the second tier, he wants to finish among the best two teams.

“I am happy that we utilised our scoring chances over the weekend after working hard on finishing the entire week,” Omondi said, after recording his seventh win of the season, that sent them to fifth spot with 28 points.

“The league is very competitive unlike last season. We’ve to strategise for wins in every game because even a single point matters,” he added.

Meanwhile in Awendo, the match pitting Isebania and St Joseph’s Youth was called off due to heavy rains that pounded the area.

“The match commissioner called off the match after the pitch was dimmed unplayable. The competitions; department will reschedule the fixture,” Isebania coach Daniel Mufta said.

GFE and Nakuru All Stars remain rooted at the bottom of the log.
