Western Stima Sunday saw off bottom-placed Mount Kenya United 2-1 in a SportPesa Premier League match at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Frederick Nyarombo scored the powermen's winner in the second half after Kelvin Thairu had cancelled Patrick Otieno's early goal.

Stima coach Paul Ogai decried several wasted chances by his charges in the second half saying they would have won with a bigger margin.

"Mt Kenya played so hard in the first half, as usual we gave them an easy away goal. I am happy we came back strongly in the second half and managed to win, we still have to work on our finishing," said Ogai.

His counterpart Melis Medo was furious at his charges for turning in a lacklustre performance.

"Mt Kenya do not have a team! We would be up by three goals in the first half. Those are not players, I will have to sign like six new players in the transfer window," vented Medo.

Stima took the lead after five minutes when Otieno sneaked inside the box to finish Maurice Ojwang's cross. The forward beat a hapless Lucas Ideche with a beautiful connection down the bottom right.

Two minutes later, Brian Nyakan was guilty of missing a clear chance when he placed the ball wide after rounding Stima's goalkeeper Samuel Odhiambo.

The visitors levelled in the 18th when Nahashon Thiong'o picked out an unmarked Thairu inside Stima's box, the latter beating Odhiambo with a rising shot.

Mt Kenya were forced to make a first half substitution eight minutes later with Medo introducing Silas Shishemi for injured Kelvin Omondi.

The equaliser looked to have rejuvenated Mt Kenya as they looked more dangerous than the hosts in front of a handful of their supporters.

Odhiambo was forced to leave his line early to gather the ball before a onrushing John Ndirangu could finish. The power men survived yet another scare moments later when Brian Nyakan's towering header inside the box missed the target by a few inches.

In the second half, Stima begun the contest strong and almost restored their lead in the 47th minute when a lively Otieno raced on the left wing, to send a low drive but Indeche calmly gathered .

But he could not save his team from going down five minutes later as unmarked Nyarombo calmly latched on Otieno's cross to beat him with a low shot.

Martin Oduor could have settled the tie as a contest at the hour mark but he failed to tap in Nyarombo's cross.

Indeche was again called to action 15 minutes to time, leaving his line to make a timely clearance before Baron Oketch could shoot.

Odhiambo heroically stretched to deny Thairu an equaliser at the death for his side to bag maximum points.
