Football Kenya Federation has asked the Kenyan Premier League to reschedule Saturday’s ‘Mashemeji derby’ between Gor Mahia and FC Leopards planned for Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega to allow the national team to play two friendly matches.

FKF wants the match called off to allow new Harambee Stars coach Sebastien Migne field the 10 players he has called up from the two clubs in international friendlies against Swaziland and Equatorial Guinea on Friday and Monday respectively.

“We continue to engage both KPL and the clubs with view of rescheduling the fixtures,” Barry Otieno, FKF’s head of communication, explained Sunday.

However, Kenyan Premier League CEO Jack Oguda said the match would continue as earlier planned.

“The match will go on. We already have the venue booked, and the television crew set to broadcast the match have already been lined up,” said Oguda.

"Clubs are not obliged to release players this weekend because the dates have not been set aside by Fifa for international friendlies."

Gor Mahia custodian Boniface Oluoch and Leopards midfielder Duncan Otieno are among those called up by Migne as he begins preps in earnest for the 2019 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers against Ghana.
