Why Ulinzi Stars coach is a troubled man

Ulinzi Stars head coach Dunstan Nyaudo is increasingly becoming a frustrated man by the day.

And the tactician has all the reasons to remain angry in the Ulinzi Stars dug out thanks to his blunt striking force.

The striking force has literally "refused to score" during home matches in the SportPesa Premier League.

The former champions have played seven matches at home with their only win coming against Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).

They have amassed 14 points from as many matches and face a tricky away tie to struggling AFC Leopards at the weekend.

Nyaudo's frustrations hit fever pitch on Monday where the soldiers needed a last-gasp equaliser to salvage a point in their 1-1 draw against Western Stima at Afraha Stadium.

And it was not a memorable goal, as Enosh Ochieng - who missed several chances - swept home following a goalmouth melee.

In fact, so tense was Nyaudo that he never left his seat to give instructions from the touchline like he does, leaving the duty to his assistant Mulinge Ndeto.

“It is the first time in the history of Ulinzi Stars that we are almost winding the first leg of the season with only two wins one of which was at home. It is unheard off,” said a visibly frustrated coach Nyaudo.

Nyaudo blamed lack of confidence for the dismal run.

“The players have lost confidence. When you’re not winning you tend to have doubt yourself,” said Nyaudo.

“The players are disoriented when the team that is not doing well,” he added.

The soldiers have been playing almost to an empty Afraha Stadium as dissatisfied fans stopped attending their matches due to their inconsistent results.

“The team is capable of bouncing back and regain its winning mentality but this will only happen if they also get moral support from fans and not insults.”

“The young players I have are not so much experienced. Players such as John (Njuguna), Ibrahim (Shambi) and Ezekiel (Okare) are still young that need more time to mature."
