Why Wazito could be docked points

What you need to know:

  • Should the federation crack the whip, All Stars will regain top position on 57 points, one better of second-placed Ushuru Ushuru, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Eldoret Youth in Eldoret on Sunday.
  • Wazito will drop to third spot with 55 points, similar to Nairobi Stima, who battled to a one-all draw against Administration Police in other weekend fixtures.
  • This will be the second time this season the Francis “Killer” Oduor-coached side has benefited from their opponent’s abuse of rules after being awarded 2-0, three goals against Green Commandoes on March 6.

Promotion-chasing Wazito could forfeit their 4-0 triumph against Kisumu All Stars in their National Super League match played on Sunday at Moi Stadium for fielding an ineligible player.

Midfielder Teddy Osok was to miss the match on suspension for accumulation of five yellow cards, but the Nairobi-based side – cognisant of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) competition rules and regulations, erroneously fielded the player.

Coincidentally, the former KCB and Sofapaka man scored the fourth goal on the 80th minute, before being replaced by Daniel Mwaura a few minutes later.

The emphatic victory propelled moneybags Wazito to the top of the 20-team standings on 58 points, four ahead of fourth-placed Kisumu All Stars after 28 rounds.

“We ask that according to the rules, Kisumu All Stars be awarded three points and two goals as stipulated under the law,” read part of the protest letter - seen by Nation Sport, sent to FKF by Kisumu All Stars Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nicholas Ochieng on Sunday.

Prior to their 1-0 win over Bidco United on Wednesday, Osok had accumulated four yellow cards, but was slapped with his fifth a minute into added time in the tie staged at Camp Toyoyo grounds.

The Kenya U-23 star was among players suspended for the round of 28 matches in the circular sent to clubs by FKF on Friday.

“2018/19 NSL player cautions Teddy Osok (5 yellow cards) to miss match no.280 v Kisumu AllStars,” read the circular in Nation Sport’s possession.

“The federation has already issued a statement that they will check all reports to confirm whether the player was on five yellow cards or not but irrespective of the decision, we are focusing on our objectives this season,” Wazito patron Solomon Alubala reacted.

Should the federation crack the whip, All Stars will regain top position on 57 points, one better of second-placed Ushuru Ushuru, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Eldoret Youth in Eldoret on Sunday.

Wazito will drop to third spot with 55 points, similar to Nairobi Stima, who battled to a one-all draw against Administration Police in other weekend fixtures.

This will be the second time this season the Francis “Killer” Oduor-coached side has benefited from their opponent’s abuse of rules after being awarded 2-0, three goals against Green Commandoes on March 6.

The Kakamega-based side fielded an ineligible player in Yusuf Mita, who was on suspension, due to accumulation of five yellow cards in their league encounter played on March 3 at Bukhungu stadium.

Meanwhile, Bidco United has warned Shabana when the two face-off on Wednesday at the Thika Sub-county stadium.

“There’s no two-way about this game, we need to win to move up the ladder,” offered Bidco coach Anthony Akhulia, whose team lost 2-0 to Shabana in the first leg played in Kisii county in January.
