What you need to know:

  • Vihiga United were the better side creating numerous scoring opportunities.
  • Rwandan keeper Eric Ndayishimiye was impressive between the sticks keeping Leopards in the game.
  • Leopards remain in 15th position with 3 points from four matches.

A timid AFC Leopards on Saturday failed to garner maximum points against a troubled Vihiga United playing to a frustrating barren draw in a SportPesa Premier League match played at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

Visiting Vihiga were the better side creating numerous scoring opportunities but they were unable to find a way past Leopards keeper Eric Ndayishimiye between the sticks.

Leopards had the first goal attempt in 8th minute when skipper Robinson Kamura headed Dennis Sikhayi’s corner over the bar.

At the other end, Vihiga’s Godfrey Airo controlled a long on the left flank before squaring it to an on rushing Amos Kigadi who failed to beat an impressive Ndayishimiye.

Action swung from one end to the other as Yusuf Mainge floated in a dangerous cross that found an unmarked Aziz Okaka whose feeble attempt at goal was easily dealt with by Geoffrey Oputi in Vihiga’s goal.

An experienced Ingwe backline comprising of Ghanaian Isaac Oduro and Kamura neutralized attacking threats by Airo and Kigadi ensuring that both teams went into the breather on level terms.

After resumption, Vihiga tactician Mike Mururi pulled out a tiring Airo for Mike Isabwa. The former Kariobangi Sharks winger had an immediate impact as his shot was scrambled off the line by Leopards rearguard.

Leopards coach Marko Vasiljevic threw in Baker Lukooya on 63 minutes for Aziz Okaka but the Ugandan proved ineffective as well with little impact upfront.

Ingwe remain winless at 15th position after four matches with three points while Vihiga is at seventh. Leopards travel to Posta Rangers as Vihiga will be back in the city to play Tusker in their first league matches of next year.
