This is the fourth leg in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) - formerly the Golfer of The Year series. This year, it has attracted a quality field with most of the leading amateurs expected to battle it out for the KAGC points plus the Windsor Classic title.

Coming just less than two weeks before the Barclays Kenya Open, the Windsor classic will be a good final build up for the amateurs who are featuring in the Open. They include South Africa-based Daniel Nduva, Golfer of The Year Edwin Mudanyi of Vet Lab and Dennis Saikwa of Royal.

Missing however in the draw is Bhavnish Chandaria - who qualified to join the Kenya Open team during an amateur qualifying event held at Muthaiga on Monday where he shot rounds of 70 and 75.

Those drawn at Windsor besides the Kenya Open bound players will be other leading amateurs in the country such as Royal Nairobi’s Jay Sandhu, John Karichu of Limuru, Kiambu’s Michael Karanga and Michael Ngene, and Muthaiga’s Anthony Irungu.

Teeing off for the first round of the 54-hole event, which also counts towards the World Amateur Ranking, is set for 7am followed by the second round at noon. The course at Windsor is reported to be in a fine condition and all set for the event where low scores are anticipated.

HUGE FIELD IN THIKA

At the par 72 Thika Sports Club course, a huge field of over 200 players were drawn for the Mt. Kenya Open which is the sixth and the final leg in the Barclays Amateur Tour which has so far visited Eldoret, Karen, Nakuru, Kisumu and Nyali in Mombasa.

Aimed and spreading the Kenya Open experience to the various regions in the country, the event also offers some opportunity for the overall winner to play in the Kenya Open pro-am. This is in addition to some excellent take away prizes being offered by Barclays which this year has set aside a total of Sh82 million towards the Kenya Open as well as the amateur series.

The Ruiru Sports Club course will this weekend host the Lady Captain’s prize being sponsored by estates developers Emperor Realtors through club member Kamau Kimenju. The event has attracted over 200 players.
